Grease-can student winners recognized at board meeting

After 500 entries from four Fallbrook schools came rolling in for the Fallbrook Public Utility District’s annual grease-catcher art contest, the painstaking task of selecting the cream of the crop began. The top 14 were selected and the Fallbrook schoolchildren who crafted them will be recognized Monday, March 26 at the 4 p.m. FPUD board meeting. In addition, Fallbrook Street School will be awarded the district’s $500 prize for having the greatest number of entries in the contest. Zion Lutheran School will be awarded $300 for having the second-greatest number of entries.

Water Conservation Poster Details
FPUD has a special classroom presentation just for Fallbrook fourth-graders. We play a fun and informative water-bingo game with students and award prizes right there in the classroom. Then fourth-graders are invited to put their creative caps on and participate in the Water Conservation Poster Contest. All it takes to enter is a colorful, hand-drawn, imaginative poster illustrating what a precious resource water is. The top three winning entries above will be featured in the 2007 Water Awareness Calendar, other calendar pages will have 4th grade artwork from around the county. Calendars will be available in the lobby in November.

FPUD Grease Can Education Program
Kitchen grease poured down the drain is a big problem in Fallbrook that leads to sewer spills, harming our water and environment. FPUD staff will come into the classroom, explain the problem to students, bring empty coffee cans and craft supplies while the children create grease catchers they can take home and use.
